I've had a couple of interesting conversations since my post last Monday about the article in the New York Times about "hyperlocal" sites. What if a church decided to become the go to place for local resources in the community they were trying to reach ... job resources, training, volunteer opportunities ... alll focused on a small radius around the physical location of the church (or on a small community, etc. ... however you wanted to define your "target" geography). Marshall resources within the church and within the larger Body of Christ to resource and equip the community.
Now, I'm not saying you can do this "only" in an online presence. If you have that kind of dirve and focus on your local community, it is going to express itself in multiple ways in the "offline" world. But the online piece could be very important, too.
Having coffee tomorrow with a former "recruiter" for a large international corporation who is beginning to formulate a burden/strategy for a local outreach along these lines. I'd love to have a conversation with people who have seen this type of thing work or who have ideas about how it could work. Is that you?

:-) Thanks for sharing about the guy you're meeting who is thinking about this. That's awesome! I get excited when I hear people with skills to do specific things looking for ways to help the church reach out to the community in relevant and helpful ways. Thanks!
